When the Hive is Burning 2025

Set in the permanent architectural artwork Amphis at Wysing Arts Centre, the artist alone enters its unsafe, decaying interior to compose a sound installation from hive recordings and a self-narrated text. High-volume vibrations make the entire building tremble, raising the emptied architecture before the audience like a hive. Ancient Celtic beliefs—bees as messengers between the living and the dead—and the custom of “Telling the Bees” intersect with present bureaucratic violence—pesticides, exterminations, and the UK’s foulbrood burn regulations—as well as the manifold deaths and violences of today. Recordings of wing-buzz, tremors, waggle dances, and the queen’s piping are recomposed to recall the forgotten building as an auditory memory. When resonance stops and vibration disappears, can we recognize the losses that are unfolding now?
Wysing Arts Centre の常設建築作品「Amphis」を舞台に、老朽化で危険を孕む内部へ作家のみが侵入し、巣箱の録音と自身の ナラティブから成るサウンド・インスタレーションを構成する。大音量の振動は建物全体を震わせ、空（から）の建築は観 客の前に巣箱のように立ち上がる。古代ケルトにおける「死者と生者を取り次ぐ使者」としての蜂神話や、死を蜂に告げる 習俗 “Telling the Bees” と、現代の殺虫剤・駆除、英国における腐蛆病（Foulbrood）焼却規制などの官僚的暴力、さらに は今日のあらゆる死と暴力が交差する。羽音、振動、ワグルダンス、女王蜂のパイピングを録音・再構成し、忘却に沈む建 築を聴覚の記憶として呼び戻す。共鳴が絶え、振動が消えたとき、私たちはいま、進行しつづける喪失に気づけるだろうか。
